Calls for more security at city bus terminals following the stabbing of a 6-year-old boy.

The president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508 that represents Halifax Transit drivers says more supervision is needed at major terminals.

Patricio Garcia says Sunday’s stabbing at Scotia Square was witnessed by one of their members.

He adds that it’s shocking it happened in broad daylight.

It’s the latest in a string of violence, the most recent was a stabbing involving a youth at the Cobequid terminal in Sackville.

Garcia says the Bridge and Lacewood terminals have a security guard at night, and there’s been a reduction in incidents.

Sackville and Portland Hills also recently have full-time security guards on site.

Boy in stable condition

The victim’s condition has been upgraded to stable from life-threatening, he remains in hospital in Halifax.

Nineteen-year-old Elliott Chorny was arrested at the scene, she is charged with attempted murder.

The accused and victim were not known to each other, according to Halifax Police.

Chorny remains in custody and is due back in court in March.
