Background

A 31-year-old man has been charged with 17 human trafficking related offences involving two young people in Nova Scotia.

The Human Trafficking Unit says it was July 2023 when they received a report from a victim who was a youth at the time.

During the investigation, officers became aware of a second victim.

The offences happened between 2017 and 2023.

On February 22, the suspect was arrested in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was living.

He is now back in Nova Scotia facing charges that include Receiving Material Benefit from Sexual Services, Procuring – Person Under 18, Advertising Sexual Services, and Trafficking in Persons.

The suspect appeared in court in Halifax last week and was released on conditions and pending future court appearances.

HTU says these types of investigations are guided by the needs of the victims.
