Another Halifax-area hospital is beefing up its security.
Nova Scotia Health says beginning this week, anyone entering the emergency room at the Dartmouth General will be searched with hand-held metal detectors.
In addition to that, you can expect to have your personal belongings searched for any dangerous objects.
“Any weapons-or objects that can be used as a weapon-will be confiscated,” says Nova Scotia Health in a media release.
Dangerous items found will be returned safely and secured outside of the ER.
NSH says they are asking that the emergency department be treated the same as the process for airport security clearance.
“Patients and visitors can be prepared and minimize the wait by leaving weapons at home, in a vehicle or with a trusted person while at the hospital. Entry will be quicker if everyone cooperates.”
The healthy authority adds that security staff will use discretion and if a patient arrives at the hospital needs urgent care, they will get immediate attention.
This follows the installation of metal detectors at the QEII’s Halifax Infirmary emergency department last month, after a stabbing left four people injured, including two staff members.
