Some tense moments for residents of Chester.
About 10 people had to be evacuated after a propane leak Sunday night around 9:30.
It happened off Highway 14 in the Bonny Lea Farm area.
Deputy CAO Erin Lowe says fire and RCMP helped organize an evacuation.
“They determined about 800 metres from the affected area. Door-to-door knocking was carried out, and all residents were safely evacuated,” said Lowe.
An emergency alert was issued and a comfort centre was set up at the Chester Basin Fire Hall by the Luneburg Regional Emergency Management office.
Irving Oil came in and identified the source of the leak, and the all-clear was given after midnight.
Lowe thanks everyone who helped bring a quick resolution to the incident.
“They acted quickly and got everyone safe, in a situation that’s pretty scary. Huge thanks to the volunteers at Lunenburg REMO who set up the comfort station as well.”
