Background

The official search is back on for the missing 4-year-old boy in Guysborough County.

RCMP tell our newsroom in an email, they have drones in the air Wednesday to continue the search which was suspended on Saturday.

Oakley went missing after falling into the water Thursday, April 17, when fishing at Cooks Cove.

Thirteen agencies sprang into action in the air, on the ground and in the water to look for him until it was temporarily called off when he was unable to be found.

Community doesn’t give up

There has been massive community support for Oakley’s family, since the tragedy happened.

Despite emergency crews stalling their search, community members in the area have continued to look for the boy every day and even have a Facebook page dedicated to the cause.

In addition to that, a GoFundMe page organized by the family’s cousin, Janelle Delorey, has raised over $11,000 by Wednesday afternoon.

What RCMP want you to know

You are being asked to avoid using personal drones in areas where police are present.

RCMP say they are working with partner agencies who supported the initial search to help determine where and when searches will be most effective.

“The type of craft used (plane, helicopter, drone, etc.) is determined based on the needs of the search and available equipment. As with all search rescue or recovery situations, investigators will follow up on any and all new information that is received,” says RCMP.

Police add, they will also consider the weather and what impact that may have on those looking.
