A big expansion for Cape Breton’s largest and most popular curling club.
Nova Scotia is spending $3 million on the Sydney Curling Club to make it more energy efficient, replacing the 115-year-old facility on George Street.
It will have six curling sheets, doubling its capacity.
The province says the upgrades mean the club will be able to host larger curling tournaments, which will bring in more visitors to the region and boost tourism.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the government for their generous support and funding. This investment means so much to our members and the wider community – it helps us grow the sport we love, welcome new participants and sure the club remains a vibrant hub for recreation and connection in Sydney,” says President Ian MacInnis.
The total cost for the project is $18 million.
