Ontario’s Premier has formally invited his fellow premiers to join the Council of the Federation (COF) summer meeting.
The meeting is taking place in Huntsville, Ontario.
“With President Trump taking direct aim at our economy, we need to build and we need to build fast,” said Ontario Premier and Chair of the COF, Doug Ford. “Together, premiers are seizing the momentum coming out of the recent First Ministers’ Meeting in Saskatoon to move the projects that will unleash the full potential of Canada’s economy forward.”
“There’s never been a more important time for all of us from coast to coast to coast to work together to build the most competitive economy in the G7.”
Interprovincial trade has become a focus amid ongoing tense trade relations with the United States.
During the visit, the premiers will also meet with leaders of national Indigenous organizations to have discussions on economic development, economic reconciliation and other key priorities for Indigenous peoples and communities.
The COF was founded in 2003, offering Canadian premiers a chance to discuss national issues and form closer relationships.
Meetings are typically held twice a year.
This summer’s meeting is taking place from July 21 to 23.
