The Town of Lunenburg is turning 272 years old this weekend, and part of the celebration will include a rare look into the past.

As part of Saturday’s festivities, a time capsule buried in the year 2000 will be opened. The capsule was sealed to mark the start of the new millennium and is expected to contain items reflecting life in Lunenburg at the turn of the 21st century.

The event will take place at noon on Saturday, June 7, near the UNESCO flag poles at the corner of Townsend and Prince Streets.

Speakers will include Mayor Jamie Myra, MLA Susan Corkum-Greek, and Councilor Debbie Dauphinee. Dauphinee’s father, former Deputy Mayor David Dauphinee, was on council when the capsule was buried.

Along with the capsule opening, attendees can enjoy other celebrations taking place as part of the town’s 272nd birthday.
