Province to bring more doctors from Lebanon

todayJune 25, 2025

Background

The province will get more doctors from Lebanon.

They’ve signed an agreement for a five-year pilot project to bring 10 family doctors to Nova Scotia, two in each year of the agreement.

Premier Tim Houston says they also have a strong relationship with Lebanon’s American University of Beirut.

“These are doctors who want to make Nova Scotia their home, and we have opportunities for them here in this province. It’s a perfect match,” said the Premier.

It will cost $5 million over the length of the agreement with the university, the doctors are required to sign a three-year agreement on return of service.

Dr. Kamal Badr with the university thanked the province.

“For being all so creative and out of the box thinkers in serving their community, but also giving opportunity to our very talented Lebanese physicians,” said Dr. Badr.

Health minister Michelle Thompson says it’s a first solution for the province’s plan to improve healthcare.
