Scorching temperatures expected for southern N.S. on Tuesday

Southern Nova Scotia is set to experience a significant heat event over the next few days, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal averages.

On Tuesday, the region will see highs around 33 degrees, with a humidex value reaching 41. This makes it the hottest day of the week.

Ian Hubbard, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, explains that while this will be a hot and humid day, it doesn’t meet the criteria for a heat warning.  “Tomorrow will be the hottest day of the week and also the most humid with the highest humidex values,” Hubbard says.

In order for a heat warning to be issued, there needs to be two consecutive days with humidex ratings over 40, and overnight temperatures must not drop below 17 degrees.

Wednesday will see a slight drop in temperature, reaching around 27°C, and the humidity will decrease, bringing some relief from the intense heat. However, the high temperatures
