You can now return home if you evacuated for the Ostrea Lake fire.

Residents near Musquodoboit Harbour were able to start returning at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, according to a social media post from the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The city says anyone in the area should keep checking for more updates on the city’s social media pages and sign up for hfxALERT in case the situation changes.

The fire started in the early afternoon on Sunday. About 100 homes were evacuated, according to city councillor David Hendsbee.

The fire had shrunk to 30 hectares as of last night, it was as high at 40 hectares.

Five people registered at the comfort centre at the Eastern Shore Community Centre before 10 p.m. Sunday.

Crews were on scene early Monday morning

According to Halifax councillor David Hendsbee, DNR was back at the site in Ostrea Lake at 7 a.m. Monday.

Two tankers and three drones were requested from Halifax firefighters.

Monday morning, the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency surveyed the forest fire with drones and found a few minor hot spots, but “no areas of major concern,” according to the city.

Hendsbee asks that people avoid the area and let the firefighters and RCMP do their job without interference.

As of 1:30 p.m., the entire province is currently under a burn ban. It will be updated again at 2 p.m.
