Pascan Aviation will soon no longer have service between Sydney, Cape Breton and Halifax.

In a news release, the Quebec-based company says they did not get the passenger volumes needed to keep the flight going.

“We are disappointed with Pascan’s decision to exit the market, but we recognize that the level of utilization required to maintain this route was not met,” says Myles Tuttle, Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney Airport Authority.

“The community has long-awaited the return of this service, so we worked hard to find a provider that would serve this route but the demand for this service ultimately fell short of what was needed to ensure long-term viability.”

The service started in October 2024 with flights two times a day from McCurdy Sydney Airport to Halifax Stanfield International Airport with an aircraft that sat 30 people.

In December 2024, Pascan adjusted its route to once a week.

The Sydney Airport Authority says they will continue to explore opportunities to improve air service for Cape Breton travellers.

Pascan will discontinue the service between Sydney and Halifax, July 20.
