Background

A number of homes have been damaged by the devastating Long Lake wildfire in the Annapolis County that continues to burn out of control.

In a media release Monday afternoon, the province says the fire has more than doubled in size to 7,780 hectares since its last estimated measurement at 3,255 hectares.

There have been a few rounds of evacuations, including two on Sunday, like Highway 10 and streets around Trout, Zwicker and East Lakes.

All residents from the first round of evictions have been informed that some homes have been damaged.

Premier Tim Houston says his heart goes out to those displaced in the West Dalhousie area who are worried.

“Please know that all Nova Scotians stand with you at this difficult time,” said Premier Tim Houston. “Our firefighters and aircraft are doing everything they can to limit damage. Unfortunately, the tinder dry conditions are making it extremely difficult to fight this wildfire.”

It is still an active fire scene, and officials need time to assess damage.

Annapolis County will contact residents as information is confirmed, to let them know the status of their property.

The province asks to not share unconfirmed information and to respect privacy regarding damage.

A press conference on the fire will be Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Houston alongside other officials.
