Hurricane Erin to miss N.S., but bring strong waves

todayAugust 19, 2025

Background

It looks like we’re going to avoid Hurricane Erin.

Environment Canada says the storm, along with all the wind and rain is expected to stay offshore, far away from Nova Scotia

Meteorologist Ian Hubbard says the south coast of the province could see some big waves later this week.

“Pretty much all we’re thinking at this point are those waves, but we are following this system very closely. There is some uncertainty on how far north it will come,” said Hubbard.

As far as drought conditions, Hubbard says there’s no significant rain in the immediate forecast.

He says there’s a big deficit of rain we need to make up to see conditions improve.

“Precipitation that we’ve seen since the start of June compared to a normal year is running 40-60 percent of normal.”

Hubbard says a good ‘rain making’ storm is needed to really soak the ground.
