If you’re in the military, you’re getting a bigger paycheque.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the biggest pay increase in a generation for Canadian Armed Forces members.
The Prime Minister says we’ve taken the Armed Forces for granted.
“These are the men and women we trust to wear the Maple Leaf, our flag, and to risk their lives for it. Their pay should reflect the weight of their responsibilities,” said the Prime Minister.
Carney adds it’s about rebuilding and investing in the Forces.
“There will be an eight percent raise for colonels and above, a 13 percent raise for lieutenant-colonels and below, and a 20 percent raise in starting rates for privates in the regular force.”
It’s part of Canada’s $9 billion commitment to the military, announced in Halifax in June.
The pay raise is retroactive to April 1.
