The Long Lake wildfire complex remains out of control as crews race to make progress before potential shifting winds from Hurricane Erin.
The fire’s official size estimate remains at 3,210 hectares, though officials say a more precise measurement is planned for later Saturday. No homes have been reported damaged.
Firefighters are focusing on strengthening dozer guards and soaking areas around the perimeter of the fire zone.
Officials added that conditions look promising for continued progress before winds begin to pick up.
On scene Saturday are 52 firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources, 62 from Ontario, and 42 local personnel.
The response also includes six helicopters, six fixed-wing aircraft and bird dogs, along with more than 30 heavy equipment operators.
Firefighters from Prince Edward Island have returned home, with officials thanking them for their support.
The next official update is expected Saturday afternoon.
