KISS FM Nova Scotia
The Long Lake wildfire in Nova Scotia continues to grow.
In an update Sunday morning, the Department of Natural Resources says it has now grown to around 1101 hectares.
A post on social media stated that the wind has shifted and the fire is moving towards the West Dalhousie Road area.
That means more evacuations could be needed.
DNR says parts of Nova Scotia will smell the smoke due to the winds.
The Department of Natural Resources added that protection measures are in place including sprinklers on all homes.
The resources being used today include two contracted helicopters who are supporting 57 DNR, five PEI, and 39 local firefighters.
Twenty DNR members from New Brunswick and 20 others from Ontario, have all been deployed to Long Lake.
DNR is also hoping to get four skimmers from the Northwest Territories today, to be used in the morning and evening.
