todayAugust 19, 2025

Background

You might smell smoke when you step outside.

Environment Canada has an air quality statement in effect for Queens and Annapolis counties, as smoke from the Long Lake wildfire sets in.

Shelburne County Emergency Management says residents are also noticing a smoke smell.

Meteorologist Ian Hubbard says limiting time outdoors is a good way to stay safe.

People most likely to be impacted include seniors, pregnant people, infants and young children, or people with an existing chronic illness.

Eye, throat and nose irritation are symptoms to watch out for.
