Catches are down in Nova Scotia’s largest lobster fishing grounds.
That’s according to the executive director of the Coldwater Lobster Association, Heather Mulock.
She says the shore price in LFA 33 and 34 in southwestern Nova Scotia is good, around 15 dollars a pound.
But, that’s due to low catches.
“We’ve had a lot of wind. Early in the season, we had a significant amount of Jonah crab but that seems to have tapered off. The bottom temperature is really cold, and right now those lobsters do not want to move,” said Mulock.
Mulock says if the waters stay as cold as they are, it will take a while for the lobsters to start crawling again.
She’s hoping for a better Spring and better weather.
The season opened in late November and runs until May 31.
